KALAKALAPPU 2 MOVIE REVIEW
Review By : Behindwoods Review Board Release Date : Feb 09,2018Movie Run Time : 2 Hours 34 Minutes Censor Rating : U/A
Kalakalappu was one of the super hit movies of 2012, which also impressed the audience for its humour infused with fun elements. Now, the sequel to that film, Kalakalappu 2 has been released, directed by the same Sundar.C.
Money is the ultimatum for everyone and Kalakalappu 2 deals with such a concept where everyone is in the need for money, for their own reasons. This is the primary plot of the movie, told in an interesting manner, with some trademark Sundar.C touches.
A major part of the comedy scenes in first half doesn't exactly bring in the intended laughter. There's no substantial content, even for the humour, which doesn't connect with the audience. However, this issue gets corrected post interval and the second half has quite a handful of funny rib-tickling scenes. Maybe, that is because, only at the middle point, the main chaos starts, and only then the real comic tension starts.
The chase scene in Karaikudi is well shot and brings in the relieving laughs. On the downside, the entire railway station climax sequence seems to be a tad bit long, and the editor’s wise use of scissors could have made it better. For the logical mistakes, that is left unanswered, Sundar.C has an answer in the climax. Over a point in time, the slapstick comedies become redundant and test the patience.
Though Mirchi Shiva comes only towards the interval, he scores the best out of all the leads. His timing comedies and one-liners are enjoyable. Jiiva and Jai have utilized Kalakalappu 2 very well and their performances supplement the film well. But one might feel that both the J’s could have been used better, bringing out their humourous side.
Nikki Galrani and Catherine Tresa fulfill the responsibilities of a commercial film heroine. Both the leading ladies look sizzling on screen. Yogi Babu needs a special mention who scores well wherever he gets to. Robo Shankar, Sathish, VTV Ganesh, Munishkanth, Singam Puli, Singamuthu, Vaiyapuri and other sets of comedians do what is expected of them.
U.K.Senthil Kumar’s visuals supply the right flavour to the movie, adding a colour to the celebratory mood. Hiphop Tamizha’s music is trendy and stylish, but still, it needed a little more essence.
Kalakalappu 2 is different from the first part, and there is no similarity, not even the characters. The only connect to this sequel with its first part, is the flavour and treatment given to the screenplay. Sundar.C’s experience comes in handy and the ace director packages well with right commercial elements in apt proportions. However, he could've still worked on a few comedies which look old and dusted. Something freshly written would have complemented the film more.
On the whole, serious moviegoers might feel the lack of completeness. However, for the family audiences and kids, it will be satisfying watch for its high dosage of comedy.
KALAKALAPPU 2 SONGS REVIEW
Review by : Behindwoods Review Board Album Release Date : Feb 06,2018 Oru Kuchi Oru Kulfi
Lyrics: Rokesh, Saravedi Saran, Hiphop Tamizha
Singers: Gana Vinoth, Saravedi Saran
Oru Kuchi Oru Kulfi is a typical gaana paattu with Hiphop Tamizha's trademark modern touch. Dance lovers will lap up the song, the rhythms seem like they have been designed exactly for that. Listen to it for its peppy beats!
Karakudi Ilavarasi
Lyrics: Mohanrajan
Singers: Jassie Gift, Sudharshan Ashok
Karakudi Ilavarasi is a very interesting composition - Hiphop Tamizha fuses rural beats and lyrics seamlessly with a calm modern rhythm and the hip voice of Jassie Gift in the song, creating a happy few minutes for the listener. Mohanrajan's harmlessly naughty lyrics add an interesting flavour.
Thaarumaaru
Lyrics: Hiphop Tamizha, Mohanrajan
Singers: Sanjith Hegde, Sniggy, Hiphop Tamizha
There are so many musical elements in Thaarumaaru that it is difficult to pinpoint its exact genre, but Tamizha ensures that it keeps us engaged until the end. The violin interlude here and there is especially noteworthy. Sanjith Hegde and Sniggy's stylish renditions add to the feel of the song very well. Excitingly confusing or confusingly exciting? You decide!
Pudichiruka Illa Pudikalaya
Lyrics: Mohanrajan, Hiphop Tamizha
Singers: Hiphop Tamizha, Varun Parandhaman, Rajan Chelliah
Pudichiruka Illa Pudikalaya, an interesting song from the album, is a trap number with fresh sounds and phrases that make the listener bob their head along with a smile. The many little layers of music that pass us by stand out uniquely, but still amalgamate with one another beautifully.
Krishna Mukundha
Singer: Kaushik Krish, Padmalatha, Velmurugan
Lyrics: Mohanrajan
Combining several instruments to create a medley of sorts, Tamizha packs flavour in Krishna Mukunda (a popular Carnatic composition) and treats us with another fusion in the album. Padmalatha's voice is vibrant, and Mohanrajan's lyrics complement by contrast.
