Mani Ratnam’s portrayal of the issues of adoption, parenthood and the struggles of Sri Lankan Tamils was originally titled Kudai, a fact that many of us do not remember. It was later rechristened Kannathil Muthamittal, maybe in keeping with the quite poetic number that was tuned by Rahman.
