The trailer launch function of Bejoy Nambiar’s David was held today in Hotel Hilton, Chennai. The two lead men, Vikram and Jiiva, attended the launch and so did the director, Nassar, Rajeevan and the producers of the movie. Director Dharani, Vikram’s dear friend was also a guest invitee.
The trailer of the film was showcased at the start of the event and it was an impressive one thanks to its energy and making. The music was pulsating and the movie promises lot of thrills and spills. While Vikram is present in both the Tamil and Hindi versions of the movie, Jiiva is present only in the Tamil version. The Tamil version would be dubbed into Telugu as well.
The plot of the movie revolves around two Davids living in different parts of the country and in different eras. These two stories converge at a point to bring the movie to a resolution. Vikram plays a fisherman in Goa, 2010 while Jiiva plays an aspiring guitarist in Mumbai, 1999. Vikram’s portions in Goa were shot by Rathnavelu aka Randy while Jiiva’s portions in Mumbai were shot by P.S.Vinod. The movie was simultaneously shot in both the languages in live sync sound and all the speakers spoke about how challenging and contrasting the experience of shooting in sync sound was.
At the event, Vikram looked dapper and absolutely fit in a body hugging T shirt and casual jeans. Jiiva was his debonair self even in casual attire.
Lot of music bands in addition to Anirudh, Remo and Prashant Pillai are involved in the soundtrack of the film which Jiiva promises would be trippy like an English album’s. There would be 12 songs in the album.
Director Bejoy Nambiar admitted how lucky he was to get a stellar star cast for his very first film and promised something new to the audience. He was eager to observe the audience response for his maiden Tamil venture. All the speakers termed him a taskmaster but a very committed and disciplined one at that. His team of young assistant directors also came in for praise.
Jiiva said that his portions were completed in just 25 days though they shot for close to 17 hours on each of these 25 days. His schedules though long and taxing, weren’t tiresome, he said. Calling Vikram a great actor, Jiiva also spoke about the brotherly bonding and comfort levels that he shared with Vikram.
Vikram termed the movie one of his best yet and he actually accepted this role despite the director telling him that it was meant to be done by a comedy or character artist. He vouched for an unconventional brand of heroism in this movie and also jokingly said that his Hindi is poor and that it actually sounded like Tamil. Though Vikram doesn’t have any combination scenes with Nassar, he said that the latter’s role is very well-etched.
Nassar was sure that the movie would be an experience more than being just a story. When talking about sync sound he said that he was happy that silence was back on the sets due to the requirements of live sound recording. Despite the long schedules not going well with his age, he said that the schedules never got tiresome.
David is set for release in February 2013 and judging by the trailer, it won’t be a run-of-the-mill commercial entertainer and Bejoy Nambiar will be here to stay.
