The official press meet of A.R. Rahman’s upcoming Live concert in Chennai ‘Thai Manne Vanakkam’ was held this afternoon in the premises of The Grand Chola. The concert would have Rahman performing an all Tamil set for the first time since 2003 when he last did so.
A.R. Rahman looked his classy best dressed mostly in black. He was accompanied on stage by senior officials of Jaya TV who are the telecasters of the show. Also alongside were representatives of the title sponsor, Aircel, and the event managers, Rapport Global.
After revealing his joy in being able to come back to Chennai for a Live show, he went on to say that he will be performing songs right from Roja to Kadal. He said that he will be performing nearly 30 tracks during the course of the show, and preparing the setlist was one of the biggest challenges. He and his team apparently had plenty of discussions before arriving at the final playlist for the show.
When asked about any rearrangements to his tunes Rahman responded in the affirmative and said that most of his classics will be rearranged for the show. Rahman was also asked about his choice of singers in the recent past to which he admitted that in his early days he chose singers who could just sing great, but as he evolved he picked singers who suited the style of the particular song’s composition.
The show is scheduled to take place on the 29th of December at the YMCA Grounds in Chennai. The event coordinators have been running several promo campaigns such as handpicking young singers from a competition to sing along with Rahman on stage. Another interesting campaign was to involve the public to choose the opening song of the concert through an SMS and online platform.
The concert will feature all the top singers from the Tamil industry and will also have room for talented musicians from various parts of the world who will be a part of Rahman’s orchestra. The event also promises to be a visual extravaganza with the usage of the latest technologies. As part of their corporate social responsibility, Jaya TV will donate a percentage of the ticket earnings towards the TN CM’s Public Relief Fund.
The event concluded with A.R.Rahman having the last word, but through his music, as he premiered his latest single titled ‘Infinite Love’ for the gathering.
