THE GENUINE SUCCESS STORY OF KAMAL'S PAPANASAM

Today, 21st August, Kamal Haasan - Jeethu Joseph's Papanasam enters the 50th day of its theatrical run. This film is one of the genuine successes this year, and has held on this long despite the hurricane-like run of Baahubali which released just a week after. Strong word of mouth and patronage from family audiences are main factors in the Papanasam success story.

 

Here we chat with George Pius of Wide Angle Creations, one of the producers of the film,

 

"We are naturally happy with the success of the film. We knew that this content would work and we were confident right from Day 1. The film is a profitable venture for all parties concerned."

 

On whether Papanasam would have done even better, if not for Baahubali.

 

"We knew that Baahubali would be coming a week after us, but were sure that our film had its own strengths and merits. Baahubali was of a different genre, and may be yes, Papanasam would have done even better if Baahubali hadn't released immediately after. But on the whole we at Wide Angle Creations are very happy with the success of the film, which has held on so long."
