Director Vetri Maaran's Visaranai will be screened at the Venice Film Festival

National Award winning director Vetri Maaran is currently busy with his next film Visaranai, the trailer of which was released few weeks back to a thunderous response. The hard-hitting trailer showcased an interrogation in a cell in a very raw and riveting manner.

Looks like the film featuring Attakathi Dinesh, Samuthirakani and others has earned a special distinction of being the first Tamil film to be featured in the competitive category in the Venice Film Festival.

Vetri Maaran talking to behindwoods confirms the same and states, “As regards Venice Film Festival, director Mani Ratnam has been honored there with a Lifetime Achievement Award. Tamil films have been screened there but in the competitive category, in the 72 years history of the Venice Film Festival, this is the first time a Tamil film is getting screened. Visaranai will feature in the Orrizonti section. Orrizonti in Italian means ‘horizons’ and this section would look into films that would fit in the new trends in world cinema. Just to be here in itself is a great thing. Out of 1800 to 2500 films, they shortlist fifty films and I am very happy that Visaranai features in the list. It is a great feat for a Tamil film and I am quite happy about it”.

Vetri Maaran further updates, “The festival is from 2nd to 12th September and they will give us three screenings in that”.

It sure is a proud moment for Tamil cinema and here is wishing Vetri Maaran and Team Visaranai the very best! May Visaranai win many more laurels!
