WHY DO CRITICALLY SUCCESSFUL DIRECTORS TAKE SUCH A LONG TIME ??

Why do directors like Ram, Thiagarajan Kumararaja and Vetri Maaran take a huge gap between their films?

We have many groundbreaking directors who have made us proud, taking our Tamil cinema to the world front. But such directors seem to take huge breaks between their projects (importantly to begin their second film).

Thiagarajan Kumararaja who had a profound debut in the form of Aaranya Kaandam (2011), which won him the coveted National Award for Best First Film of a Director, is yet to kick start his second directorial project, though he has worked on the script of a few films such as Billa 2 and Yennai Arindhaal.

Likewise Director Ram who gave a critically acclaimed Kattradhu Thamizh (2007) took six years to release his second film Thanga Meengal (2013). Even a director like Vetri Maaran, who has given films that have been both critically and commercially successful, has taken up a lot of time between his films (Polladhavan 2007, Aadukalam 2011 and now Visaranai & Vada Chennai 2015-16).

Director Santha Kumar of Mouna Guru fame (2011) is yet to begin his second, though there have been reports that he will soon start a film for Studio Green. Kaaka Muttai director Manikandan, on the other hand, has reportedly completed shooting for his second film already.

Is this gap because the directors take time to sharpen their scripts to satisfy the mounting expectations? Is it a case of big responsibility coming along with all the debut acclaim? Or do they find it tough to meet the demands of a largely commercially-inclined industry? We wonder !
