The satellite rights of new Tamil movies are being sold for whopping amounts

Suriya and Vijay are costlier than Ajith and Karthi

Sep 11, 2013

Much like the scene in Bollywood, the satellite rights of new Tamil movies featuring big stars are being purchased for whopping amounts and this market is growing at a very rapid rate. The prominent channels such as Sun, Jaya, Vijay, Raj, Zee Tamil and Kalaignar are in the running for all the big blockbusters and the rates have hit the roof.

We had reported a few months back on how Thalaivaa and Jilla were bought by Sun TV for rates hovering around the 15 crores mark. Now, the head honcho of Studio Green and the newly appointed Secretary of the Tamil Film Producers Council, K.E.Gnanavel Raja has posted in his social media space that the satellite rights for both Biriyani and All in All Azhagu Raja have been taken for 11.5 crores each by Sun TV.

He also posted that the satellite rights of Ajith's Veeram have been sold for 13 crores while Suriya's next film has also been sold for 15 crores.

Producers of these films must be a really relieved lot as such a big chunk for satellite rights helps them recover a part of their production investment even before their films hit the screens.
