It was certainly Vijay’s year in 2012, and he has more reasons to smile at the year gone by as his film Thuppakki has joined the 100 crore club. The actor told the press that he was hopeful that this success will rub on to the industry and will result in a purple patch for everyone.

As the producer of Thuppakki, Kalaipuli Thanu, confirms that the film grossed 100 crore worldwide within a couple of weeks, the achievement places its director A.R. Murugadoss in a unique pedestal.

Murugadoss has earned the distinction of being the first director to reach the 100 crore club in Hindi as well as Tamil. He first achieved it with Aamir Khan in Ghajini and now with Vijay in Thuppakki. The director though is not one to rest on his laurels as he aims to hit the 200 crore mark next.
