During a season when MGR and Sivaji Ganesan were ruling the roost in the industry, a film came along with a relatively young cast and set the cash registers ringing almost instantly. The film, Kasethan Kadavulada, now enjoys the status of a classic, if not one of a cult following. The film was a full length comedy featuring Srikanth, Muthuraman,Lakshmi, Thengai Srinivasan, Venniradai Moorthy and Manorama among others. This 1972 super-hit film was directed by Chitralaya Gopu.

Now, reports are emerging that director P.T. Selvakumar who recently delivered Onbathula Guru is contemplating a remake of the classic comedy. It is also heard that the casting process is currently underway and the director is considering either Vadivelu or Santhanam for the central character.

Remaking classics is starting to become a staple go-to for filmmakers these days, with a Thillu Mullu rehash currently in progress and with reports of Pattanathil Bootham too being revived with Powerstar doing the rounds. Will Kasethan Kadavulada be the next?

It may be recalled that 2011 saw a film release with the same title but was unrelated to the original Kasethan Kadavulada.
