Though Mani Ratnam hasn’t won the National
award for direction as yet, he has won accolades
from across the world for his films. Notable among
his films is Nayagan, which made it to the Times
magazine’s list of top 100 films ever made.
The latest among his awards conquest is the V.
Shantaram Award for his directorial venture Guru,
a biopic. Guru has also won two other awards.
While A R Rahman won the best music composer award,
the best cinematographer award went to Rajeev
Menon. The awards were presented for films released
between September 2006 and August 2007. Instituted
in 1993 by the V. Shantaram Foundation, these
awards are usually the first to set the awards
season rolling.
