Gautam Vasudev Menon has sounded the importance of safety in the shooting spot and raised the importance of enabling industry personnel with basic first aid and survival skills.
He recounted an incident that occurred during the Telugu shooting of Kaakha Kaakha. While filming in Sri Lanka, the crew was restricted to travel by makeshift boats to the location. It seems the director insisted on life-jackets for all the crew members on board but the request was neglected. The boat ride turned out to be disastrous as it capsized in the river throwing all the members into 60ft of water.
Gautam Menon recalls everyone grabbing on to the boat for dear life but unfortunately the cameraman R.D. Rajasekhar fell unconscious and needed immediate medical attention as water had entered and bloated his body. The implications were serious as R.D. Rajasekhar supposedly still suffers complications in his body since that incident.
