Looks like the Tamil film industry is in love with the Hollywood’s idea of re-releasing classics in 3D, the last being Titanic 3D. Raj Networks, a television and production company, which supported the re-release of the classic Karnan has decided to work on another classic of Sivaji Ganesan’s Veerapandiya Kattabomman in 3D at a whopping budget of 1 crore. The film will be re-released next year.
It’s the response to Karnan that has kindled the Channel’s interest in re-releases. The network owns the rights of over 3,000 movies of which about 100 are masterpieces. The film Veerapandiya Kattabomman is on par with Karnan as far as its grandeur, production values and the star cast is concerned. Sivaji bagged his first international award at the Egypt Film Festival for his performance in this film. The good news is that unlike Karnan, the negatives are said to be still in good condition, which will make the re-release a hassle-free process.
Incidentally, late actors Nagesh, P S Veerappa, M N Nambiar and R S Manohar will be making their comeback in the forthcoming Kochadaiyaan, which is also a 3D film. Looks like history is repeating itself in 3D.
