Welcome to Central jail is Dileep and Sundar Das teaming up after a long gap of 14 years. The first time the duo joined hands were for Sallapam (1996) and their last venture together was Kuberan (2002). It can be said that Dileep's transformation from a genuine actor into the brand ambassador of slapstick comedy has made a large impact on their latest film 'Welcome to Central Jail'.

The plot of the movie is set in the backdrop of a Central jail where the protagonist Unnikuttan (Dileep) was born to a prison inmate. As he considers the jail, his home, he desires to spend maximum time in captivity and takes responsibilities for petty crimes committed by others. His life changes when Radhika (Vedhika) comes into it. The director and the writer have shown an imaginary world where even the Central Jail is a lovely place with caring and friendly Police Officers. The first half has been stuffed with comedy sequences with one leading to the other while the second half unfolds the wafer-thin story.

Sundar Das's amateur television comedy skit level direction and Benny P Nayarambalam's old-fashioned script packed with many illogical comedies and cliched melodramatic scenes might impress the children and the family audience. But people who look for logic, solid plot and natural acting will be disappointed with the movie.

Dileep continues to excessively depend on his peculiar acting style and voice modulation to generate laughter. Vedhika's characterization has nothing in it to test her abilities as an actor. Renji Panicker has done a pretty decent job with his Jail Superintendent. With their spot-on counters, actors like Hareesh and Sharafusheen succeed to make the audience titter. The bad guys in the movie come directly from the movies of the 80's and have nothing new to offer.

The Cinematography, background score, and songs were not up to the mark and fails to make an impression. The Editing and Visual effects are also quite average.

The movie is a treat for people who intend to spend their money just to enjoy and laugh without any strings attached to it, and more importantly; are also into Malayalam comedy skits.

Verdict: Go ahead if you want to watch a television comedy skit on the big screen
