‘Mankatha, Mankatha, Mankatha…..’ this is the mantra that ‘Thala’ Ajith fans had been chanting these days. And, the D-day had finally arrived.
The curtain goes up, whistle sound tears your ear apart, “Thala” chanting gets intense and…the wait is over, Mankatha is unveiled! Mankatha, is the biggest ever multi-starrer movie in Tamil Cinema till date. Plot : ‘Vinayak Mahadevan’ (Ajith Kumar), a police officer, is suspended for his links with smugglers. He takes the path of a new life. He shows his love interests in Sanjana (Trisha), daughter of a hoodlum and a big shot Arumugha Chettiar (Jayaprakash), who gets involved in a cricket booking deal of Rs. 500/- Crore during the IPL matches in Mumbai. The ex-police officer Vinayak, and the men of Chettiar come together to defraud the big money from Chettiar. Vinayak and the four men, Sumanth (Vaibhav), Ganesh (Ashwin), Mahath (Mahath) and Prem (Premji Amaren) have their own secret plans of swindling the money from cheating and defeating each other. Prithvi (Arjun), an honest police officer is assigned the task of nabbing these men, gets in the job, here. Who wins the Cat and Mouse Game is the movie ‘Mankatha’! Performance : Action King Arjun as Special Officer Prithvi is back in action. Arjun is prefect for the role and has done exceptionally well. His role is meaty as Ajith’s. Vaibhav has grabbed a meaty role as well and emotes well in the role. Jayaprakash, Subbu Panchu, Premji, Mahat, Arvind Akash, Ashwin, Anjali and Lakshmi Rai are also present. Trisha, the lead lady is pretty and does her role well though the character does not offer her much.
Yuvan Shankar Raja’s tunes were already topping the charts and he contributed the most for the recent big hype of the movie. Songs and background score are mind boggling.
On the direction front, Hats off to Venkat Prabhu for keeping the audience guessing all the way and scripting an absolute cracker of a climax! The chess board sequence just before the interval block is unique and intelligent. However it is Ajith who steals the thunder and plays the emotionless bad man, to perfection. He looks smashing and his scorching screen presence is unmatchable. Ajith simply has a blast as the guy whose character sports negative shades. He utters four-letter cuss words with the ease of long practice, sleeps with random women, drinks & smokes like there's no tomorrow and lusts after money with a passion that sweeps us all away. And you wonder why no one ever gave him a role like this after Vaali. Overall - Seems like Venkat Prabhu as a fan of Ajith has understood the pulse of the audience and fans of Ajith that he has given such an entertainer, where Ajith rules the game of action. Mankatha – Ultimate Star’s Ultimate Game! Thala 50 is a jackpot!!! Vicranth rdvicranth@yahoo.co.in
