I am Akash Balwante from Pune. I am big fan of Tamil movies though I am not Tamilian. I am writing this article to express my opinion about Tamil movies from my point of view. I have been watching South Indian movies since past 5 years including Telugu and Malayalam movies. Malayalam Cinema is known for its artistic elements and slow pace while Telugu Cinema is well known for its commercial and mass masala factor. But we found combination of both these factors in our Tamil Cinema. Tamil Cinema is not only commercial but also artistic. Best example is that Enthiran is one of the most successful movies in Indian Cinema and Tamil movies grabbed 12 national awards in last year. So I think Tamil movies are matured enough.

In this article, I am going to talk about my favorite actors, directors and musicians of Tamil Cinema. There are many actors in Tamil Cinema, some of them are stars and one is Superstar. I have seen all recent movies of Rajinikanth. My favorites among them are Chandramukhi, Sivaji and Enthiran. Kamal is the gold for Tamil cinema who has won 5 times national award. Vikram and Suriya are also good actors who proved themselves in Anniyan, Pithamagan, Deiva Thirumagal, Vaaranam Aayiram, Ghajini, Ayan etc. Though Suriya is bigger star than Vikram, I think Vikram is better actor than Suriya. Vijay and Ajith are those stars who have so many fans in Tamil Nadu. I think Vijay’s Kaavalan is the best movie among all three bodyguard remakes. There are so many Tamil actors who have good market in Telugu too such as Rajinikanth, Kamal Hasan, Suriya, Vikram, Vishal, Madhavan etc. Some new comers have also joined this league that includes Arya, Karthi, Jiiva etc. There are very few actors from other industry who have good market in Tamil like Prithviraj, Mohanlal, Mahesh Babu etc.

There are lots of talented directors in Tamil like Mani Ratnam, Shankar, Gautham Menon, Selvaraghavan, Ameer Sultan, Vasantha Balan etc. Shankar is the king of Tamil box office who mainly known for its patriotic theme in his movies and he also proved himself in non-patriotic movies like Boys, Jeans and Enthiran. He is not only good director but also a good producer. He has produced some good movies like Veyil, 23rd Pulikesi, Eeram etc. Mani Ratnam is one of the best directors in India who has tasted success in Hindi too.  Gautham Menon’s Vaaranam Aayiram movie is close to my heart. He has done various kinds of movies like Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya, Minnale, Vettaiyaadu Villaiyaadu, Kaakha Kaakha, Patchaikili Muthucharam and recent Nadunisi Naigal. He has worked on various genres like romantic, action, and thriller. Vasantha Balan is my most favorite director whose both films are all time my favorite movies that are Veyil and Angadi theru. There are lots of other directors such as Myskin, Cheran, AL Vijay, Venkat Prabhu, KV Anand, Sasikumar, KS Ravikumar, Bala, Vishnuvardhan, Susindhran etc who are the assets to Tamil cinema.

There are so many Tamil music directors who have been doing good jobs. Mastero Ilaiyaraja is the king of Tamil music. A.R.Rahman is jewel of Indian music who has proved himself not only in south Indian languages but also in Hindi and English language. Other musicians like Harris Jayaraj, Yuvan Shankar Raja, Vijay Anthony, Vidyasagar, G.V. Prakash are also some talented musicians in south India. Some non-Tamilian musician like Devi Sri Prasad has been doing good job in Tamil since last 4-5 years. Harris Jayaraj is known for his western and melody tunes while Yuvan is famous for his singing. Vijay Anthony, D. Imman, Thaman, G.V. Prakash are some of the new comers who have potential to do the best in future. Karthik, Harish Raghavendra, Benny Dayal, Chinmayi, Bombay Jayashree, Naresh Iyer, Aalap Raju, Blaze, SPB, Tippu, Hariharan are my favorite singers.

So, this is my small review about Tamil industry and I want to taste some more Tamil flavor in near future.
