SOGGADE CHINNI NAYANA MOVIE REVIEW
Soggade Chinni Nayana (SCN) is a fantasy Telugu film starring Nagarjuna, Ramya Krishnan and Lavanya Tripathi in the lead roles.
By this time you would have known that SCN is a ghost story. Yes, it is about a good ghost trying to help his son save his marriage. In the course of doing so the ghost finds out the mystery behind his own death. The rest of the story is about how he saves his son’s marriage and revenges for his death. Both the role of the ghost and the son are played by Nagarjuna.
After building the core storyline with a fresh supernatural fictional plot, the director has cleverly melded it with a more conventional subplot with all the essential masala elements like mass fights, sentiments and betrayal. However the subplot isn’t so strong enough, probably the reason for that may be due to lack of a strong reason for the antagonist to go against an extremely lovable family.
The calendar might say that Nagarjuna is 55 plus but on screen he looks like a 35 year old. It is motivating to see him maintain his body so well after all these years. He looks so fit and trim. He is as charming as he was 25 years back. Like mentioned earlier, he plays two roles, one of a workaholic doctor from the US and the other of a local yokel guy (the ghost). He plays both the characters with such conviction, be it his voice, body language or grace, everything compliments his performance.
Ramya Krishnan as Sathya looks extremely pretty. Ramya is the main female lead in the film and she registers another flawless performance. Lavanya Tripathi is the other heroine of the film and she does a neat job too, but Nagarjuna and Ramya’s overwhelming show overshadows her performance. That is probably the reason you don’t find any other actors impress you much in SCN. Unlike his recent works, Brahmanandam gets to play a more extensive role here. He wins a laugh every now and then, while some of his comedies work some don’t.
It has a tight screenplay that grabs the attention of the audience throughout. The director plants some mysterious elements that add excitement along with romance, comedy, sentiment, action and fantasy. So it has something for every type of audience.
But on the downside, the graphics looks pathetic. But since the plot is over enthusiastic, we find it easy to forgive but nevertheless the makers should have concentrated on the CG work, it is way too amateurish.
Some colorful visuals, nice situational music and adorable old fashion romance make it an amiable feel good family film that will find a fair share of takers from all center audiences.
