Inspired by Bala, Ameer and Sasikumar, Anurag Kashyap decided to revisit his roots with a gritty, violent gangster movie set in Wasseypur. Revenge was the core undercurrent in this 320 minute long movie which was split into two parts for the Indian audiences. The movie had powerhouse performances from Jaideep Ahlawat, Manoj Bajpayee and Nawazuddin Siddiqui as the three generations of the Khan family while Huma Qureshi emerged as a fresh new face. GOW is now a cult classic with a niche following of its own despite limited box-office success.
