NAMADHU CAST & CREW
Production: Rajini Korappatti Cast: Gautami, Mohanlal Direction: Chandrasekhar Yeleti Music: Mahesh Shankar Cinematography: Rahul Srivastav Dialogues: Madhan Karky Lyrics: Madhan Karky

Mohanlal and Gautami have come together after quite a long time and hence there is some kind of anticipation to check out what these talented artists are going to offer to the audiences.

Namadhu although promoted as a trilingual, appears dubbed in many places. But for Gautami, Mohanlal and Oorvashi, most of the cast members seem to be talking in a different language and there are serious lip sync issues.

The film is about four individuals Mohanlal, Gautami, Vishwanth and Raina Rao and director Chandrasekar Yeleti’s objective seems to be to tell his story in a multinarrative format. In such a format, the audience would eagerly wait to find out the converging points of these different arcs. But the director has not worked upon this aspect to capitalize and for the major part, has steered the film in a very flat fashion.

Namadhu gives a feeling of watching a dubbed television serial more so in the first half. Only in the second half, towards the climax, there is some semblance of excitement and engagement. Out of the four different arcs, Mohanlal’s and Raina Rao’s are better. But the character of Raina Rao is too sugary for consumption.

The family sentiment that is narrated at the end might appeal to the audience. But you wonder the purpose of a multinarrative to tell this story. It could have been done in a normal fashion which certainly might have earned more patrons for this film.

Performance wise, of course, veteran Mohanlal has done justice to his role and so are Gautami and Oorvashi. But one definitely can’t avoid the feeling of good actors being wasted in an average film.

The entire scene of action and sensibilities don’t appear to belong to Tamil or Tamil Nadu. They show Hyderabad and have dialogues such as going to Panagal Park and Mambalam. The film also claims to have a normal train station in Alandur when in reality, there is only metro station. Nanganallur is pin coded as Chennai-20. These are some of the blatant slips which should have been avoided. These things work hugely against the film and do not give a ‘Namadhu’ feel to the Tamil audience.

On the positive side, one can say that the film is devoid of innuendoes, overt violence, mindless humor or vacuous romance.

Verdict: The dubbed feel acts against a ‘Namadhu’ feel
