Do we respect our freedom? Do we respect the people who got it for us? Yes, we have statues of Mahatma Gandhi in virtually every big city, but is that good enough? Amongst us and around us there lived men and women who loved their country and freedom more than anything else. Andhimandhaarai looks at the way society values such people years after freedom had been achieved. Helpless and destitute, that’s what many of them are and so was the protagonist of the film. Sensitive performances by Vijayakumar and Jayasudha under Bharathiraja’s direction made this a touching movie.
