This film looked more at the social scenario during pre-independence India than at the actual freedom struggle itself. The focus was on the silk weaving community in Kanchivaram which lived a life of extreme poverty in spite of producing one of the finest materials in the world. The film highlighted the extreme social inequality that was present during those days. A unique film that was duly recognized with the National award.
