From asteroids and aliens, the focus moved to pandemics and mass deaths due to disease, possibly taking a cue from the bird flu terror that struck most parts of the world for some time. This time, an old idea was revived to make ‘I am Legend’. The movie is an adaptation of a novel of the same name which was previously made into movies twice before; Omega Man and The Last Man on Earth. In ‘I am Legend’; the last man on earth (read New York City) is Will Smith, trying to find a cure to the virus which is in fact a cancer cure gone horribly wrong. With only a dog and night wandering death eaters for company in the city, he hopes to find a way to resurrect the civilization. The major change that this movie makes from other ‘end of the world’ subjects is that it shows the world after the disaster instead of following the normal course of averting disasters through fairy tale acts.
