Even the title was innovative. Venkat Prabhu’s
directorial debut defied every convention
in the book to become a smash hit and a cult
classic. The film had an entire battalion
of fresh faces with little or no experience
in front of the camera. Cricket was the actual
hero in the movie and humor, its heroine.
The story about a team of boys, who were specialists
in gully cricket and were always game for
a bet match, a good fight, some romance, and
lots of fun, was such a delight to watch.
Venkat Prabhu had arrived and in rip-roaring
