her movies with the Superstar were super-duper
hits, be it the peppy girl in Mannan, or
the intense lover in Pandian. Annamalai
was her defining movie; even the Superstar
sang her praises in the now cult hit song.
Her role here was a crucial transition period
for the actress: In the first half, she’s
the bubbly, funny girl next door, and in
the second half, to everybody’s surprise,
she transforms herself into a caring, understanding
wife and mother. Very few lead pairs shared
such good comic timing as they did in few
scenes of Mannan and Annamalai. |
