Siraichalai
Siraichalai
Siraichalai, a dream project of Priyadarshan, was a period film produced in Tamil and Malayalam, portraying national integration as its main theme. This film was also dubbed in Hindi as Kala Pani and was released during a time when a strong nationalism wave was sweeping the nation entering its 50th year of independence. Mohan Lal, Tabu and Prabhu played the lead roles in the film. Music Maestro Ilayaraja came up with some of the all time best songs like 'Sempoove poove'. His background score and a creatively cut trailer became an instant talk of the town. Big wigs of the industry were all in appreciation about Prabhu's role and action in the film. Inspite of all the box office ingredients, this film failed commercially – a strong Malayalae feel to the movie or too serious a subject – guess what would have been the reason.
