Tamil
cinema perhaps is witnessing one of the biggest
waves of hype and hoopla ever in its history. Two
of its greatest living legends are in the middle
of making each of their careers’ most crucial
movies, and they each have a great support team.
Rajinikanth is in the company of Shankar, Rahman
and AVM, whereas Kamal has K.S.Ravikumar, Himesh
Reshamiya and Oscar Ravichandran as his lieutenants.
For Rajinikanth, it will be his second innings after
delivering one of the biggest blockbusters ever
since the inception of Tamil Motion pictures and
for Kamalhassan, this would easily be one of the
most challenging movies he has done to date, donning
ten different get-ups in a single movie, coming
after one of his biggest blockbusters of recent
time.
The platform doesn’t get bigger than this;
every single step of both the teams is under the
high tech radars of the media. It’s a rat
fight among the papers and media houses to get every
single bit of information out there about both these
movies. Why blame the media, when the public expectations
are feverishly high. They are just playing to their
audience, though sometimes annoyingly out of line.
But one is not sure if such high expectations are
good for the movies. A single wrong step can become
fatal with finance close to 100 Crores (1 Billion)
in the line, both projects put together. No worries,
every adversary has solutions, and this one does
too. There are always lessons from the history –
learn from the past, said the wise men. There have
been movies which had generated tremendous buzz
among the people only to fall flat on the ground.
Even with the best technicians and talents working
on them, what would have gone wrong with those movies
– story perhaps, or maybe the presentation,
or was it the packaging, or was it more importantly
- media management. Talking about media management,
do both these movies have a media management team?
We at Behindwoods, will be more than willing to
share the list of such movies of the recent times
that withered away after stirring quite a big storm.
Lessons to be learnt – well, who are we the
preachers; we leave it to the people concerned.
