Massive news comes our way from the Eastern Indian state of West Bengal! Mamata Banerjee, the Honourable Chief Minister of West Bengal, has made a brilliant gesture to help the regional film industry.
The existing rate of entertainment tax levied on cinema tickets was 2%. Now, after the introduction of GST, the tax rates on movie tickets has been changed to 18% (9% on Central GST and 9% on State GST) on tickets priced below Rs.100 and 28% (14% on Central GST and 14% on State GST) on tickets priced above Rs.100. Now, coming to the wonderful gesture, the CM, Mamata Banerjee has announced that the State Government will bear 7%-12% as State Rebate on the final ticket prices for regional films.
This is going to be of significant help to the Bengali film industry while other industries like Kollywood have been suffering after the double tax implications.
