SAME CAST AFTER 34 YEARS...

Manal Kayiru released in 1982 was a humorous take about the conditions that a young man puts forth for his wife-to-be and how he gets tricked to marry someone who did not satisfy even a single condition of his. The film was directed by Visu and S Ve Shekher played the role of the young man Kittu Mani along with Shanthi Krishna, Visu and others.

Now after 34 years, a sequel to the original is being made. Titled as Manall Kayiru 2, the film is directed by Madhankumar of Yaaruda Mahesh fame and produced by Sri Thenandal Films. The sequel features S Ve Shekher, Visu, Ashwin Shekher, Poorna, Jayashree and others.

Talking about the film, S Ve Shekher tells behindwoods, “It will be the same story and will be about the happenings in Kittu Mani’s family after 34 years. Poorna plays the role of my daughter who puts forth conditions for marriage. Ashwin Shekher plays her pair in the film. Jayashree of Thendralae Ennai Thodu fame plays my wife in the sequel as we could not get the dates of Shanthi Krishna who played my wife’s role in the older version. When Poorna puts forth conditions, my wife approaches Naradhar Naidu (Visu) for help and what happens afterwards has been narrated in a very humorous manner taking into consideration the contemporary sensibilities.

In the present days, girls are very clear about what they want in life as they are well educated and financially independent. This sequel will continue to reiterate that marriage is not about contracts but is more about compatibility.  

Shooting is nearing completion. We are right now shooting in different places in Chennai and will be moving to Malaysia soon.

I have written the story and screenplay for Manall Kayiru 2. Madhankumar has taken care of dialogues and direction. Music is by Dharankumar.

Many comedians like Chaams, Geroge, MS Bhaskar, Namo Narayana and Lollu Sabha Manohar have played important roles. 

In the Indian cinema, after 34 years, three artists (Visu, Kuriakose Ranga and me) are doing the same role in the original as well as the sequel. This is a unique feat”.
