The MeToo movement, which started last year, gained popularity when Bollywood actress Tanushree Dutta came up with allegations against Nana Patekar. Now the movement has spread South and Singer Chinmayi has been one of the flag bearers of the movement.
A victim had alleged that Radha Ravi had harassed her. Chinmayi had also said that her dubbing career is going up in smokes because he is the head of the Dubbing union. Responding to them, Radha Ravi spoke to the press, and in the process lashed out against the MeToo movement.
He said:
"Nowadays, everyone has started accusing people. If the heroine is wearing makeup, and the director enters the room by mistake, his career is finished. We cannot make the heroine sit in the middle of the road and ask her to wear makeup. All this is negative when it comes to development of cinema.
In those days, the camaraderie between the actors, producers, directors and technicians used to be good. So, the films too had longer runs, and we had a pleasant feel while working on the film. Today, everyone is scared to go for a narration, fearing harassment charges.
Just because you know English, you go to English newspapers and talk in detail about what women face and the MeToo movement. How is this good for cinema? In my opinion, Siddharth is the true man, because he said Men also face harassment. Vishal also came up with a good point, that the victims should have talked about this when it happened.
We cannot go 10 years back in time and see 'everything'. By everything I mean how the surroundings, the venue, location and other factors. He further went on to claim that the MeToo is for ministers and fake godmen."
