VIJAY SETHUPATHI'S DIRECTOR GETS EMOTIONAL

Vijay Sethupathi's Karuppan press meet happened today morning at the Prasad Lab, Chennai. The movie is directed by R.Panneerselvam and Produced by Sri Surya Movies.

The director of the film, Paneerselvam got emotional on stage during his speech, "I was waiting for a bus for a very long time. In fact, many discouraged me that there won't be a bus at all. After waiting for a very long time, there came an AC bus for me. Vijay Sethupathi was the driver, and AM Ratnam Sir was the conductor. They gave me the complete freedom in the bus, and today they have brought me to the destination beautifully. I wrote two stories after Renigunta. I liked this story(Karuppan) among the two. I wanted to make a film on this story and tried to pitch the story to many actors. Even after telling them I'm Renigunta's director, they were not even ready to listen to my story.

Many people weren't interested in meeting me. Director Seenu Ramasamy sir called me once and asked me how will this story be to my brother. I replied him it would be apt. He immediately told me to come the next day to a dubbing theatre where Vijay Sethupathi was dubbing for Dharmadurai. I met Makkal Selvan. He said he liked Renigunta a lot and shared that he still listens to Renigunta songs. He listened to my narration and rest is history. My first movie as an assistant director was with Sri Surya Movies. I am happy that I could now do a film under their banner.

Usually, many artists would say they learned from the directors, but I learned many qualities from Makkal Selvan.  I have worked with many actors, and amongst them, no one stays this focused in a script like Makkal Selvan. While shooting for the first two days, I doubted that whether Vijay Sethupathi is cracking our scene through his improvisation. I realized later that he is making it even more polished. Karuppan's shoot started even before the Jallikattu Issue. The story has nothing to do with Jallikattu."

The whole team including D.Imman, Tanya, Yuga Bharathi and A.M.Ratnam were present at the Press Meet.
