Trisha - charms Toronto & answers about her marriage too !
Mar 31, 2014An event story by Behindwoods Canada Correspondent Dilani Rabindran
The long-reigning queen of Kollywood, Trisha Krishnan, made legions of her Canadian fans very happy when she returned to her modeling roots and walked the ramp for Toronto’s inaugural Vivah Wedding Show on March 29. Clad in a gorgeous modern, white, black & neon pink Anarkali suit, and later a gold brocade bridal lengha from local fashion retailers, Trisha Krishnan was the special guest and showstopper in a day full of glitz, glamour, entertainment and the latest in Indian bridal and party wear for the upcoming summer season. Her class and professionalism shone through when she addressed her Toronto fans, thanking them for years of supporting the South Indian cinema industry and her personal career.
Saying how she felt “as though she were in India or Sri Lanka with the number of [South Asians she had] been seeing everywhere” Trisha seemed truly thrilled to be welcomed so warmly on her first visit to Toronto. She even humorously entertained questions on her impending marriage plans proclaiming that she especially loved her Toronto fans for insisting that she is far too young to tie the knot, but that when the right time and groom came along she would certainly let her fans know!
On hand to endorse the event, produced by some of her earliest mentors in the fashion industry who in fact coordinated some of her first runway walks as a teen, the ever-smiling Trisha, who is well known for her social service and charity work, was also thrilled to support Toronto’s South Asian Autism Awareness Centre (SAAAC), Vivah’s official community sponsor, and launch its new donation & membership plan.
And, in a wonderful bonus, South Asian photographer to the stars, G. Venkat Ram, who fondly recalled how he first photographed Trisha as a teen, also graced the event. The stylish and suave Venkat explained how the Trisha, fans all know & love today, was once a grumpy teen who had no interest in modeling, and that he had real difficulty getting her to smile for the camera. Cut to over a decade later, Trisha, who attributes her success in the industry to “quality over quantity”, continues to rule the roost as a well-known cover girl and internationally beloved actress.
Other South Indian celebrities, including anchor Bhavana of Vijay TV who served as host for the fashion shows also joined Trisha in Toronto. Bhavana, who was stunning in coral and pink outfits, put forth full zeal in engaging a somewhat restless crowd eager to see Trisha, and kept the event rolling with class and comedy. Together with Super Singer Season 1 sensation Maya, the two exuded enthusiasm and kept the celebratory spirit alive throughout a long day. Maya, who has since gone on to become a successful playback singer, was a powerhouse of sound, moving seamlessly and superbly between fast-paced numbers and medleys that blended English, Carnatic, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu tracks. To balance Maya’s musical performances the crowd enjoyed feats of acrobatics and high energy contemporary, traditional and ‘kuthu’ performances by dancers from India, including Sanjay and Ashok of Jodi Number One fame.
The fashion show was in itself a visual treat, featuring homegrown male and female models from Toronto, as well as some flown in from India, including up and coming actresses and recent South Indian pageant winners. The show was beautifully choreographed to tell the full story of a grand Desi romance, from meeting to marriage, via fashion, and was sure to inspire the many soon-to-be-brides present at the event. However, it was clear from the amount of fans that arrived just in time for Trisha’s entrances that the true highlight of the day was seeing “Kollywood’s angel” up close. Trisha also graced the inaugural cover of Canada’s Vivah Wedding Magazine in a Sabyasachi inspired, custom made, jade green lengha, and photographed by G. Venkat Ram.
