Kochadaiiyaan among the all-time Top 5 box-office grossers

Rajini's Kochadaiiyaan had a grand release in the USA with the original Tamil version releasing in 104 theatres in the first weekend, starting May 23rd. From the second week, the film will continue with reduced ticket rates in 58 theatres as the distributors ATMUS Entertainment expect family crowds to throng theatres. The coming weekend will decide how long a run Kochadaiiyaan will enjoy in the US.

 

Till date, the Tamil version has grossed around 525,000 USD (close to 3.1 crores in INR) and this already puts Kochadaiiyaan among the all-time Top 5 highest grossers from Tamil cinema in the US. The other four films in the Top 5 are Rajini's own Enthiran and Sivaji, and Kamal's Vishwaroopam and Dasavatharam. It must be noted that the first weekend gross was 436,165 USD (around 2.56 crores).

 

Rajini has always enjoyed a massive fan base in the US and Kochadaiiyaan's performance reiterates the pull and craze that he commands.

 

We have to see how much more Kochadaiiyaan can gross in the coming days and whether it can near the magic 1 million USD mark. We will keep you posted.
