The Indian Oscar nominee in a controversy
Jan 15, 2013Ang Lee’s Life of Pi has been nominated for 11 Academy Awards and among them is the song, 'Pi’s Lullaby' written and sung by Bombay Jayashree, under the Best Original Song category. She shares the nomination for the best original song with the film’s composer Mycheal Danna.
Now a new plagiarism controversy has taken the spotlight, claiming that 'Pi’s Lullaby' is a mere translation (specifically the first 8 lines) of a famous Malayalam lullaby, Omanathingal Kidavo. This Malayalam song in question was penned and rendered by Irayimman Thampi in the 18th century.
Jayashree has reacted to these allegations by saying that she just wrote what came to her heart.
