What is different about Sowkarpettai?

Sowkarpettai is a thrilling horror venture. It has numerous twists and turns and is filled with a lot of dark side. But it also has some comedy and fun moments.

 

So what exactly is the genre?

I think it’s justifiable to say that it’s horror humor.

 

Why horror?

As long as people get scared, I think horror movies will sell and will attract a huge crowd.

 

What made you choose Srikanth?

Srikanth has been seen as a soft actor till now. This film will break the stereotypes of Srikanth’s previous movies and will make audiences look at him differently. This film will give him a huge break and will prove his mettle to the public.

 

Why a hollywood music director? Reason?

A horror film demands good visuals and great music. I thought that John peter will deliver the best because I have worked with the base of strong scenes and heavy screenplay.

How did Raai Laxmi come into the equation?

She is gorgeous and has amazing talent. She fits in the role of Maya very well so I thought let’s rope her in indeed. This will be a side of her, that is unique. Be it glamour, horror or dance, she has aced in all segments. Laxmi has delivered her best.

Srikanth as an aghori?

This is a side of Srikanth audience wouldn’t have seen till now. I am sure audiences will love this version obviously because they look for variety indeed.

Any specific reason for choosing Srikanth- Raai Laxmi combo?

This combo being one that the audience haven’t seen till now, I guess it will be fresh and liked by all.

 

We hear that Powerstar Srinivisan is also a part of the cast?

Yes, not just him we have roped in many other comedians as well.

 

What do you think is the best trait of;

Srikanth- He was ready to take on any kind of makeover I offered. Not once did he question me on why shoud I do this so that’s great about him.

Raai Laxmi- She is totally open to creativity and delivers what I expect of her. Be it glamour, dance or even violence; Laxmi makes sure that she gives her best shot.

If needed will you direct a commercial movie?

I have made this horror genre in itself as a commercial movie, I hope that answers your question (laughs loudly).

 

So, who will you cast?

Someday with time, I will work with leading actors in the industry. Success comes with time so let’s give it time.

 

We heard that you shot in a graveyard for the climax?

Oh yes, we shot in Mulakuthram graveyard for like 15 days. The scenes were a fight between Srikanth and 50 ghosts and it was a terrifying experience indeed. We canned a lot of rope scenes and shot at a height of more than 120 feet.

Any interesting anecdotes?

Oh my a lot of things happened. Lights got switched off for no reason and we heard mysterious sounds. After finishing the shoots, the crew was actually scared of sleeping alone. Even Raai Laxmi stated that she was scared of the big hotel room and couldn’t sleep for the whole night.
