TOP INDIAN CITIES FIGURE IN THE LIST OF WORLD'S SAFEST CITIES; WHERE IS CHENNAI?

Safe Cities Index 2019 report by The Economist Intelligence Unit which is sponsored by NEC Corporation is released and two Indian cities have occupied places in the list. Tokyo has been named as the world's safest city.

Singapore lies in the second position while Osaka and Amsterdam follows it close. New Delhi and Mumbai have occupied 52nd and 45th position in the list. No other city from India featured in the list.

India Today reports that the report also mentions that urban management will play a significant role in determining the quality of life in the cities. "A key element of this will be the ability of cities to provide security for their residents, businesses and visitors," the report said.

Earlier, in a global survey held by Mercer’s Quality of Living Ranking 2019 mentioned Chennai as the most safest city in India. New Delhi has been widely criticised for the number of crimes that is happening in the city, especially against women.

Though New Delhi has better infrastructure and is better developed compared to Chennai, finding New Delhi in the list and the absence of Chennai has got people questioning.
