DOCTORS PUMP 15 CANS OF BEER INSIDE MAN'S STOMACH; HERE'S WHY

According to reports, doctors from Vietnam had to pump 15 cans of beer inside a man's stomach so as to prevent him from dying of alcohol poisoning. 

Reportedly, the Methanol level in 49-year-old Nguyen Van Nhat's blood was found 1,119 times more than normal. So as to slow down the liver's processing of methanol, doctors pumped beer inside his stomach. One can of beer was transfused every one hour. 

The strategy behind the procedure is that there are two types of alcohol - ethanol, and methanol. The body sometimes continues to release alcohol even after one has stopped drinking. This results in a spike of alcohol level. 

Nhat went unconscious after the methanol in his body oxidised to formaldehyde and later turned into formic acid. In such cases, beer acts as dialysis on the body. Nhat regained consciousness after 15 cans of beer.
