In a shocking incident in Northern Ireland, a woman accidentally swallowed a medicine plastic packet and only discovered it after 17 days. The packet was discovered only after four visits to the hospital.
The woman in her 40s accidentally swallowed the packet of painkillers in the middle of a night in November. After a sensation of a foreign body in her throat, she went to the hospital. However, even after taking an x-ray, the packet did not show up.
The woman made many visits to the hospital and on the fourth visit, an oesophago-gastroduodenoscopy (OGD) scan, which examines the upper intestinal tract using a lighted tube was conducted. After conducting the scan, the packet was found.
Reportedly, the packet was safely removed. The woman was quoted as saying, "had no idea I swallowed this. It was a very frightening three weeks and I couldn’t believe [it] when I saw the picture.” The woman was discharged after a period of observation.
