Home > News Shots > WorldWith the help of Virtual Reality (VR) technology, a South Korean mother met her dead daughter after her body, voice and face were recreated in a digital version.
The woman has been identified as Jang Ji-sung, a mother of four, who lost her daughter Nayeon at the age seven in 2017.
According to Korean newspaper Aju Business Daily, a TV documentary shared the meeting with a virtual version of mother and daughter. This digital avatar was created using images collected from a child model and from pictures of Nayeon.
The emotional meeting was shot as part of a Korean show titled as 'Meeting You', which was broadcasted on the Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation. During their meeting, the little girl can be seen running towards her mother saying: “Mum, where have you been? Did you think of me?” While Jang can be seen crying and attempting to touch her daughter.
In the interview, she said: “I wanted to touch my daughter. I tried to hold her hand and stroke her face.” Jang also sang her daughter a birthday song in the show which will totally break ones heart.
The show helps families and people who have lost their loved ones to say a final goodbye to a virtual version of their lost family member. With the help of a reality headset, Jang was able to hear a digital version of the child's voice and even experience a sense of touch using virtual reality gloves.
