"Over the last 24 hours, I have developed mild symptoms and tested positive for Coronavirus. I am now self-isolating," Mr Johnson said in a tweet.
Mr Johnson had developed symptoms of high temperature and persistent cough before undergoing the test.
Mr Johnson said he would work from home and through video conference, continue to be in touch with the top teams that are leading the country's fight against Coronavirus.
He thanked the National Health Service (NHS), police, social workers, teachers, Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) staff and other volunteers who are involved in protecting the people from the pandemic.
"The more effectively we comply with the measures that we have heard so much about, the faster Britain will come through the Coronavirus crisis and bounce back," said Mr Johnson.
