10 DEAD AFTER STRONG EARTHQUAKE HITS INDONESIA

At least 10 people have been killed in Lombok in southeastern Indonesia after a powerful 6.4 magnitude earthquake struck at a depth of seven kilometres on Sunday, say reports. The United States Geological Survey said the quake struck 50 km northeast of Lombok's main city Mataram at 6:47 am local time (2247 GMT Saturday).

A spokesperson said that no Tsunami warning has been issued despite more than 40 aftershocks. Lombok is a popular tourist destination around 100 km east of the famous resort island of Bali. Reportedly, at least two dozen others were injured following the quake.

No information about how the people died in the earthquake is available. Another spokesperson reportedly said the hiking trails on Mount Rinjani has been temporarily closed amid fears of landslides after the quake.
