The Madras High Court on Tuesday questioned the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption as to why no action has been taken on a complaint filed against Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam and his family members. The court came up with the question during the hearing on a petition filed by DMK’s organising secretary RS Bharathi.
While Bharathi had filed a complaint with the DVAC on March 10, he again filed a PIL in the HC on Monday seeking a direction to the vigilance agency to register a case and probe the complaint. He reportedly claimed, in his petition, that O Panneerselvam amassed assets and wealth disproportionate to known sources of income.
Questioning why no action has been taken even after three months since the complaint was filed, the court also asked why the case should not be transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The court asked the DVAC to file a report on the actions taken on the complaint before Monday and adjourned the hearing to Monday.
