HOW DID THIRU VI KA NAGAR BECOME THE MOST AFFECTED COVID-19 HOTSPOT OF CHENNAI? REASONS LISTED!

Since few days, there has been an unprecedented rise in confirmed cases at North Chennai's Tiru Vi Ka Nagar over the last one week. Looking at Monday's stats, this specific zone had 357 cases out of which 314 were active. 

Surprisingly, Tiru Vi Ka Nagar continues to be in the lead and has overtaken Royapuram to become the zone with most number of COVID-19 cases. According to a New Indian Express report, the main reason for this sudden rise is a prayer meeting that was organised by a family in Pulianthope. 

Meanwhile, a corporation official stated that "Two infected persons took part in the prayer meeting in the last week of April. Now, we have as many as 170 cases in that area. We managed to contain the Delhi cluster quickly. Here, most residents live in tightly packed areas."

Reports and stats suggest that till April 22, there were just 42 cases in the Tiru Vi Ka Nagar. Within 13 days, the zone increased to 20 percent of total cases in Chennai.   

“Hygiene was very low and nobody was wearing a mask. We have contained the cluster now, and hope the cases will reduce in the coming days," official added.

Tiru Vi Ka Nagar zone currently has a population of 60,000. Highlighting about total cases, 314 are in hospitals, 40 recovered and 3 have died so far.
