Games between India and Australia are ruthless, given the banter that is exchanged between players every now and then. As Day 3 of the second Test came to a end, Indian skipper Virat Kohli and his Aussie counterpart Tim Paine were embroiled in a war of words.
Despite the relentless efforts shown by the Indian pace attack that snared four quick wickets all in the final session of the day, Australia still managed to stay ahead with a lead of 175 runs. Kohli, at his aggressive best, decided to take a dig at Tim Paine.
It was during the final over of the third evening when India vociferously appealed for a caught-behind against Paine. The umpire denied the appeal and India didn't opt for a review, but then a few stump-mic conversations were picked up between Kohli and the Aussie skipper.
“If he messes it up, it’s 2-0,” Kohli said, referring to India's series lead in Perth after the Adelaide win. And Paine replied, “you’ve got to bat first, big head”. The war of words continued as the two teams headed to the dressing room at stumps.
