Ram Sewak Sharma, the chairman of Telecom Regulatory Authority of India, had on Saturday disclosed his Aadhaar number on Twitter and challenged anyone to show how the mere knowledge of the number could cause any harm to him.
Hours later, hackers published Sharma’s registered mobile number, PAN number and details like his date of birth, residential address and profile pictures online. The hackers also claimed that they retrieved the information from Sharma’s Aadhaar number. However, Sharma had responded saying these are no state secret.
A lot of Twitter users trolled the TRAI chairman to have revealed his Aadhaar on the microblogging site. However, he wrote on Twitter, “No I did not challenge them for phone number and other info. I challenged them for causing me harm! So far no success. Wish them luck.”
Meanwhile, a government official reportedly claimed that no data about Sharma was fetched using his Aadhaar number from either UIDAI or other websites. Calling it a fake news to get cheap publicity by opponents of Aadhaar, he reportedly added, “They just googled his name and got all these information.
