A 38-year-old Navy officer has been arrested on charges of raping a woman in Kerala's Kottayam district.
The woman's father has lodged a complaint with police, alleging that the officer raped his daughter after making false promises of marrying her. Murali Kumar, a chief petty officer in Mumbai, has been arrested and remanded to judicial custody, said police. Kumar has also been charged under SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act.
According to police, Kumar befriended the woman on Facebook, and allegedly raped her in a hotel room when she went to meet him. Reports suggest that woman has sustained vaginal injuries, and is undergoing treatment.
Murali Kumar is a two-time Mr. Asia title holder, and an eight-time Mr. India title winner. The police is expected to produce the navy officer before a first class magistrate court today.
