MAN MOLESTS 9-YR-OLD GRANDDAUGHTER JUST A DAY BEFORE HER HEART SURGERY

The grandfather of a nine-year-old girl, who was brought to Mumbai for her heart surgery, has been arrested for allegedly molesting her, just a day before her operation. The man has been charged under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

The girl, who apparently had a knowledge of 'good touch and bad touch' through programs in her school, raised a complaint to the nurse who was on duty at the hospital, said police.

The girl has been living at an orphanage ever since her mother passed away a few years ago. She was diagnosed with a hole in her heart, and was brought to Mumbai for surgery by an NGO.

“Her grandfather accompanied her and stayed with her. The incident took place on September 22. The girl told us she was lying on the bed when her grandfather touched her inappropriately. She called the nurse on duty and told her about it. The nurse informed the doctor and the higher-ups were apprised. The hospital informed us about the child’s complaint,” said Savalaram Agawane, senior inspector.

Police said that the incident took place just a day before the girl was to be operated. “We have registered a molestation complaint under the IPC section and also invoked sections of the POCSO. The grandfather has been arrested,” said an officer.
