"POLICE DID NOT ALLOW DELHI RIOTS TO SPREAD," HM AMIT SHAH ADDRESSES PARLIAMENT AS AGITATED OPPOSITION STAGES WALK-OUT!
Home > News Shots > IndiaThere have been attempts to politicise Delhi riots, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Wednesday while addressing the Parliament on the violence in the capital.
“I would like to place on record that after 25 February no incident of rioting took place. I pay my tribute to all those who lost their lives in riots in Delhi and extend my condolences to their grieving families,” he said.
The Delhi Police did not allow the riots to spread and managed to restrict the impact of violence to four per cent of the area and thirteen per cent of the population. They will also probe and submit a report in the coming days, said Shah.
He further said that he skipped all ceremonial occasions with US President Donald Trump and coordinated with the Delhi Police in controlling the riots.
“I was the one who asked NSA Doval to go and boost the morale of Delhi Police for their work during riot-control."
Leaders from the Congress party staged a walk-out as Shah was speaking.
Assuring the people of the country that those who were involved in the Delhi violence will not be spared, Shah said the Delhi Police have identified as many as 1,100 people who participated in the riots using face-recognition software and a total of 2,647 detentions or arrests have been made in connection with the riots.
