The Samajwadi Party leader and his son were shot dead in broad day light, which has also been caught on camera. The angry firing was soon after a minor argument took place over a road that is being built under the MGNREGA scheme.
The murder was committed on Tuesday in a village in Sambhal district, which is 379 kilometres from the Lucknow and 187 Kilometres from Delhi.
The victims, Samajwadi party leader Chote Lal Diwakar and his son Sunil had ventured out to inspect the road which is under construction. The road cuts across a field in the village, where the two men had an argument with some villagers. The road was infringing on their fields, which had instigated the argument, initially.
Two of the villagers were carrying rifles and one man was identified as Savinder.
The video shows two men, one in a white shirt and the other in a pink shirt holding rifles and arguing with the politician and his son. "Goli chala (open fire)," a man can be heard saying in the background of the video as some others can be heard trying to calm the two agitated men. Seconds later, both the men can bee seen aiming their guns at the politician and his son, and shooting them. One man can be heard screaming and another lying on the ground.
“One of the men shooting has been identified as a local strongman. We have picked up some people and are interrogating them. We hope to arrest the accused soon," said Yamuna Prasad, a Senior Police Officer.
