CHARLIE MOVIE REVIEW
Release Date : Dec 24,2015Review by : Behindwoods Review Board
Charlie is about a free spirited, slightly eccentric and adventurous person played by Dulquer Salmaan. Charlie is being tracked down by another adventurous individual with certain creative inclinations played by Parvathy. Does she manage to find him ? Well it is anybody’s guess.
Charlie’s story is very simple. But it does have depth, if only one wants to realize it. Is it realistic? Who cares. Isn’t cinema the most difficult make-believe act in the world.
When the story is simple, the narrator needs a magician composer who can help him take his audience along without letting them think too much. The extremely talented Gopi Sundar does just that for director Martin Prakkat in style. Screenplay and editing are also engineered well to make the simple story engrossing.
Jomon T John’s work in Charlie is another addition to some of the brilliant cinematographies in Malayalam this year. Did Martin actually decide to place the story in such landscapes because he had Jomon for company? That would be an interesting question to him.
Dulquer Salmaan just rules the screen. You might see Mammooka in him. You might see Lalettan too! But one thing you will not miss seeing is the growth in him as an actor.
Like a crane who catches its fish with ease, Parvathy seems to have developed this knack of choosing such meaty roles with aplomb. Is it because of Parvathy which the role gets a punch or is it the character which has brought the best out of her?
Charlie also has some cherishable cameos by actors like Nedumudi Venu, Chemban Vinod Jose, Soubin Shahir and Aparna Gopinath. Such actors are alway a director’s delights.
The movie does take a little time to move in the beginning. And the dream duet song though shot aesthetically could have been easily done away with. Just those two cents to throw in as a boring movie critics team.
There are some feel good movies which the audience wouldn’t want to immediately leave the theaters as soon as it gets over. Charlie could be one such movie for few.
