Mr. Ramamoorthy Ramasamy, owner of Madras groceries and Madras café of Sunnyvale, has been a staunch supporter of Udavum Karangal Bay Area Chapter since 2007. Along with being a successful business owner, he holds a job at a high tech company and also finds time to contribute to various charity organizations. For the second year in a row the Madras Group is the sponsor for Galaata Idol at Galaata’09, the annual fund raiser of the Udavum Karangal Bay Area Chapter. Here, Mr. Ramasamy
shares with us the reason behind his continued support for Galaata, even in such trying times and the secret of his success.
Madras Café has been consistently ranked among the top Indian vegetarian restaurants in the bay area and now Madras Groceries is also a popular Indian grocery store. What do you attribute to their success?

Our genuine care about the quality of food and customer service is probably the most important attribute. The bay area with its rich Indian heritage
provided a valuable platform to launch Madras café 7 years ago. Our affordable prices and authentic South Indian flavor, which we have maintained for so many years, continue to attract many customers. I think the key contributor to our success is the consistent level of quality we have maintained in the food we serve.

How about Madras groceries? With so much competition in the Bay area, how do you continue to stay ahead?

I started Madras groceries in January of 2008, to provide a one stop shop for all your Indian grocery needs after a tasty meal at the adjacent Madras café. Reasonable prices and the highest quality groceries, right at the heart of Silicon Valley, have been instrumental in its success. We strive to provide a very pleasant shopping experience and to achieve 100% customer satisfaction.

You have been a constant supporter of the Udavum Karangal Bay Area Chapter. This year you are sponsoring Galaata Idol. What motivates you to contribute to the cause of Udavum Karangal?

Having my roots in Chennai, I am aware of the wonderful charity work done by Mr. Vidyakar and his organization Udavum Karangal. Giving back to the community is one of the most valuable things to do as a successful business owner. I was impressed by the fact that the Udavum Karangal Bay area chapter is entirely volunteer driven and Galaata is a unique entertainment event to raise funds for orphan children in India. It not only gives me personal pleasure to support this valuable cause but I feel it’s a moral responsibility especially in these uncertain times, when the need is great. My best wishes for a successful Galaata 2009.
